At the Seattle Hebrew Academy, we offer a high quality, licensed, and developmentally appropriate program for children who will be 1, 2, 3, and 4 years old by August 31. The Early Childhood facility at SHA is cheerful, spacious, and centrally located. We have a magnificent early childhood playground area with opportunities and room to climb, run, throw, ride, engage in fantasy play, and dig. This may be Seattle, but we get outside just about every day of the school year!
Our goal is to create a collaborative learning community that provides our youngest learners with a warm, nurturing Jewish environment enriched with developmentally-appropriate social, emotional, physical and sensory activities. Our curriculum, highly influenced by each child’s abilities and interests, is Torah, Shabbat, and holiday-based, and integrates General Studies within this context. Ivrit, Hebrew language, is integrated regularly into the daily life of each class. For example, when learning about the story of Noach and the Tevah (Noah and the Ark), we may incorporate topics such as animals, counting by 2’s and 7’s, sinking and floating, rain and flooding, transportation, rainbows, and Hebrew vocabulary. In addition, we emphasize the Torah as a blueprint for living an authentic Jewish life, which includes modeling and reinforcing Middot and Mitzvot, and cherishing Israel as our homeland. Our teachers form strong relationships with children and their families. This creates a program that meets students at their own particular developmental stage. Teachers observe, document and record the learning and growth of each child while keeping parents fully apprised and involved in their children’s lives at SHA.
Field Trips and class visitors are ways we enhance our program. We strive to choose destinations and visitors that are relevant to areas of study. We participate in a weekly Shabbat Sing-Along, and a gymnastics program.
Children may begin their day as early as 8:00 and we offer options of 1:30 or 3:30 pick-up times. Children enrolled in the 4-year-old class attend five days a week. Younger children attend two, three, four or five days a week. For more information, please call:
