As a part of our mission statement, we strive to provide students with an education within an atmosphere of K’vod HaTalmid, student dignity. An important element to realizing this goal is to educate and support students around the topic of bullying behavior. While this issue can arise in any social setting with students, Seattle Hebrew Academy’s staff strives to reduce the behavior through teaching empathy and respect explicitly in the classrooms, as well as fostering an environment where students, staff and parents feel safe to report incidents of bullying behavior that will be responded to. In accordance with this goal, we have developed a bullying policy that supports our mission statement and addresses as explicitly as possible how we define and work with bullying behavior. At the beginning of every school year, families are asked to sign the parent pledge in support of this policy. In addition, we have “translated” this policy for younger children to help them understand our stance on bullying behavior at the Seattle Hebrew Academy.
